13. Photo Francis HARRIS was born on 22 Aug 1842 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.62 He served in the military between 1862 and 1862 in discharged Nov. 28 1862, disability. He served in the military between 1865 and 1865. He died on 1 Oct 1926 in Boscobel, Grant County, Wisconsin.63 He was buried on 4 Oct 1926 in Sextonville Cemetery, Sextonville, Richland County, Wisconsin. He is reference number 2905. There is some confusion about the birthdate of Francis Harris. This probably comes from the birthday cited in his obituary as August 22, 1841. This date is incorrect. Francis' older brother, William was born on April 15th, 1841. He is listed in the 1841 census for Black Torrington, Devon, England as one month old. Francis could not have been born in August 1841, so soon after his brother William's birth.
We know that John Harris came to New York in the summer of 1841 and returned a couple of months later. He is absent from the family in the June 1841 census in Black Torrington. The entire family then moved to Canada in 1842. Since all references to the birthplace of Francis list Canada as the location, he must have been born on August 22, 1842 after their arrival there. The 1900 U.S. census reflects that Francis was born in August of 1842. And Francis' pension record from the Civil War shows that he entered his birthdate as 22 August 1842.

On October 15, 1894, Elizabeth Harris registered the births for all 15 children with the Richland County Registrar. The dates for two of the children conflict. Samuel Harris was born 16 October 1877 (this date matches his birthdate shown in the California Death Index and his registered birth in Richland County). The following child, Frank W. Harris, was shown with a birthdate of 24 March 1878. It is very unlikely that Elizabeth gave birth 5 months after her previous child was born. Since Frank died under tragic circumstances (he fell in a vat of lye at the age of 2), she may have forgotten his exact birthdate, although the tombstone for Frank also shows a birthdate of 1878.

After the death of Elizabeth (Young) Harris in 1912, Francis married Eliza Cooper. Her maiden name is unknown. She recieved payments from Francis' Pension and the record reflects that Eliza Married Henry Cooper in London on 28 December 1862. He passed away on 29 Dec 1893 at Mount Ida, Grant County, Wisconsin.

Frank W. HARRIS was born on 24 Mar 1878 in Eagle, Richland County, Wisconsin.75 He appeared in the census in 1880 in Marshall, Richland County, Wisconsin. He died burned in a vat of lye on 17 Feb 1881 in Richland County, Wisconsin.76,77 From the Richland Observer, 3 March 1881; pg. 8, col.3

A Child Scalded to Death
We learn that a child of Frank Harris, on Fancy Creek, was scalded a short time ago by falling into a kettle of hot lye, so badly that it died. It seems that it and another little one were pulling against each other with a string which broke or slipped out of their hands, when the one referred to fell backwards into the hot lye, which happened to be near it. The child lived for about a week after the accident
He was buried in English Ridge Cemetery, Richland County, Wisconsin. He is reference number 3840. The birthdate for Frank, registered by his mother Elizabeth, may be incorrect. It is only 5 months after his brother, Samuel Henry Walter Harris was born (16 Oct 1877). Frank's tombstone also reflects 24 March 1878 as a birthdate. Since Elizabeth registered the birth in 1894, 16 years after the birth of Frank, it may be incorrect. Little Frank died under tragic circumstances when he fell in a vat of lye when he was only 2 years old. Francis' pension records also list the birthdate as 24 March 1878. All of the records match but it doesn't seem possible to give birth to a child 5 months after the last one. All sources also match for the birth of Samuel Harris, his older brother.
